How Do You Make Your Facebook Page Appear On Google Search Engine?

Facebook Page SEO - How To Show Your Facebook Page on GoogleI’ve been asked by someone how to make their Facebook Page appear on Google Search.  We call it Facebook Page SEO. Here’s how:

1. Create a Facebook page username

If you haven’t done this already, make sure you create a username for your page. You can do this by going to your page and clicking ‘Edit page‘ at the top. In the ‘Basic information‘ section, create yourself a Username.

This Username must be unique and explain who you are. For example, your company name.

I have noticed that the page username is more likely to show within the search engines than the title of your page, therefore choose the username carefully!

2. Turn off country and age restrictions

Another common reason for not appearing in the search engines is because you have set a country, or age restriction. You can check this by going to your page and clicking ‘Edit page‘ at the top. In ‘Manage permissions‘ make sure that ‘Country restrictions‘ is left empty, and ‘Age restrictions‘ is ‘Anyone (13+)‘.

While you are on this page, double check that the tick box next to ‘Page visibility‘ is not ticked.

Getting into Google

First things first, do a Google search of your page’s name to see if it appears.

If you’re not within the first couple of pages when you search for your page name, you have a little bit of work to do:

3. Make sure Google can find your page

For Google to index your page, it needs to know you exist. Just by being on Facebook, doesn’t mean that it will find you.

The quickest way to do this is to create links to your Facebook page.

This can be done by:

Adding links from your website

  • Commenting on popular blogs using the link to your Facebook page in the URL field
  • Creating blog posts that link to your Facebook page

Be aware that linking from other social media sites (e.g. YouTube) won’t work as they are normally ‘nofollow’ links. This means that the website will stop Google’s bots from following the link to your page, therefore it won’t find it to index it.

Google can take some time to index a page, so you have to be patient. To help it along the way, continue adding more links to your Facebook page from different sources.

Getting into Facebook search

To see if your page is appearing in Facebook search, you have to ask someone who hasn’t liked your page, to search for it. This is a little inconvenient, but if you’re not appearing, you should know about it!

Lots of people have problems getting into Facebook search, Steps 1 and 2 should be some help, however if your still having trouble take a look at this post dedicated to getting into Facebook search.

Also the Facebook search is also integrated with the Bing search engine, therefore make sure you follow the above steps to get your Facebook page into Google as this will also ring true with Bing’s search engine

Optimising your page

Now that your page is appearing in both Google and Facebook search, we will focus on getting your page to the top!

4. Enter information into your ‘About’ page

You can get to your about page by clicking the ‘About‘ link under your timeline image.

All of the text on this page gets used by search engines to determine who you are, and what you do. Not only that, it’s a great place to tell your fans this information too.

Click the ‘Edit‘ button when you hover over the about section. This will take you back into your admin screen.

Before you start editing the details here, write down of some keywords that are relevant to your business. These are words or short phrases that people might type into a search engine when looking for you.

Start with your ‘Description’ – This should have all the information about you. Summarize it in the first paragraph, then go into detail for the rest. Once you have completed this section, read back through it and make sure you have added your keywords.

Next add your ‘About‘ section – Think of this as your tagline. It should start with a link to your website (if you have one) and then be a sentence stating who you are. Again, include your main keyword here.

Finally, continue entering details for the other sections to make your page as complete as possible.

Increasing the number of likes

Increasing the number of likes your Facebook page has will give your page more authority within Facebook and its search engine.

As your page grows, Facebook will place your listing higher than other pages with lower ‘like’ counts as it sees you as the most relevant and authoritative page.

5. Use Facebook plugins

One great way to increase the number of likes you receive is to add the Facebook like box to your website. I have seen a lot of success from companies that use the like box as people don’t have to leave your website to come and like your page!

They can like the page whilst browsing your website.

This makes it easier for them to click the button and therefore, more likely that they will!

6. Promote your page

Another way of increasing your likes is to promote your Facebook page. This means posting about it on other social networks, putting links in your email footers and posting about it on your website.

Increasing engagement

The final thing you must do to help your rankings in the search engines, is to create engagement.

It’s great if you have a page with lots of likes, but if they aren’t interacting with you, then your page won’t show much authority, or have a good EdgeRank score.

7. Encourage engagement

To increase the interactivity on your page, you need to encourage your followers. Instead of promoting material about your business, ask questions – even if they aren’t relevant – and post items that they would want to share with their friends.

8. Respond to everyone

When you respond to messages on your Facebook page, you show them that they were heard. It also provides you with an opportunity to build your relationship with that person.

Once someone starts to interact with your page, they become more likely to interact with your page in the future. Therefore you want to encourage them to keep commenting by continuing the conversation, and not ignoring your fans.

9. Be consistent

Once you start to create engagement, it does become a commitment. You do need to make sure you respond and keep posting new material. However the one thing you must do is be consistent. Make sure you post every day, this isn’t only good for your fans, but it makes shows the search engines that your page is active.

Pages with low interaction or a small number of posts do drop down the rankings, so take your time and focus on your fans.

How To Give Value On Your Facebook Page, And Why?

How To Give Value On Your Facebook Page, And Why?

It’s incredibly important to give value on your Facebook biz page. Not only does it give your followers a good reason to KEEP following you, but it also plays an important role when it comes to the Facebook algorithm. I’ve broken it down to a really simply process to share with you today.

How the Facebook algorithm works: The more people ENGAGE (like, love, comment, share) with your page, the more likely they are to keep seeing your posts. If they stop engaging, they’ll stop seeing your posts because no engagements indicates that they are not interested in the posts you’re putting out there. What is the point of creating content if nobody sees it? When you give value, you’re sharing content that HELPS your followers. The more you make it about THEM, the more likely they are to stick around.

Value can be in a wide variety of forms, here’s some things to get you started:

  • Tips
  • How to do XYZ
  • Tricks and hacks
  • Things that save time/money/energy
  • Things you might not have known
  • Advice
  • When you are XYZ, try ABC
  • Education
  • This thing is not as good for you as this other thing
  • I’ve just learned how to XYZ, and I think you might like it too
  • New ideas to try
  • If you’re struggling with XYZ, ABC can help

If your page is all about what you SELL, that gets boring really fast, and it’s a fast track to losing the interest of your followers. Giving value is just ONE of the post types you need for a good content strategy, but it’s one of the easiest to come up with, and to help you with the algoritm.

Why You Should Not Look For Data Entry Jobs

If you are thinking of making it big as a freelancer, data entry jobs are not for you. Why?

Data entry jobs may be the easiest job to find for newbie freelancers, but really, it is one of the most difficult jobs to land on. Just imagine why an employer would hire someone to do something, as easy as typing or copy-paste jobs. It will be a lie if I say that I never had any data entry job before. I had a number of them… and they are the most time-consuming, and most challenging jobs… but I learned to find ways to do a literally copy-paste job of 100,000 spreadsheet entries in just a matter of minutes.  If you are a newbie and you ask, “how can she copy-paste a million entries in just 5 minutes?”, I tell you, this job is definitely not the best first job for you.

If you are curious how I managed to do data entry jobs very quickly, I will tell you the secret… I did it with codes, some programming, and lots of formulas and computations. If these words scare you, you should look for other opportunities.  There are better jobs out there for you other than data entry.

Here are the reasons why you should not go looking for just data entry jobs:

  1. Better Job Opportunities – Oh yes, there are better job opportunities for you out there.  Do you know that my first job in Upwork is Twitter Manager? YES! I think of things to post in twitter and I post it regularly in different time intervals.  If posting in Twitter seems like a very easy job, YES it is easier than data entry. You have better opportunities managing social media accounts.  Try looking for social media management jobs instead of data entry jobs.
Try enrolling in Online Courses in Shaw Academy and add some skills. If you are a newbie, check them out if they are currently offering free courses because they do from time to time.
You may also look for sale courses from Udemy. Add skills because the more things you can do for your clients, the more successful you can become in online freelancing
  2. Tight Competition – There are so many people applying for data entry jobs because they think that it is “easy”. As I have mentioned earlier, it is not as easy as it sounds. I will tell you why later. But there are many newbie freelancers (including you if you are one of these people) who think that this is the only thing they can do easily online.  “Easy” is already like a click-bait. Many still think that working online is mostly about data entry jobs. We already know that it is not. In the Philippines, there are already millions of Filipino freelancers applying for data entry jobs.  Consider the numbers outside the country.  In Upwork, there is already a big number of “Top Rated” freelancers doing this. If you are a newbie, you will find it hard to compete with them, so you have a very slim chance getting the best clients for data entry work.
  3. Bogus Jobs – There are clients who ask for test work.  Beware of this clients.  Chances are, if you are given a test work, you are already doing the actual job.
Imagine if a client needs a quick research and data entry of 1,000 latest car models, and he asks you to do 20 for test work.  The client will say that they are testing your work quality and turnaround time.  And they will ask 100 applicants to do the same test work. Just from the test work, they will have finished the data entry job without paying anyone. The client really has no intention to hire you, but you did work for them.
  4. Not Long Term – When the data entry project is done, you will find yourself, again, in a job-searching position. If you are not the most accurate and the fastest typist, your boss might just not give you more projects.
  5. Demanding and Difficult – Data entry jobs may sound easy.  Yes, you will just type, copy and paste. Some may ask you to do a bit research. But if they as you to “type 1 million entries”, it is not easy anymore.  It will be harder if the instructions will say “type 1 million entries in 1 hour”.
If you know some codes and programming, typing 1 million entries in 1 hour is very possible. (Believe me, I already did that). But since you are applying for data entry jobs, more likely, you don’t know programming.
“Research for 1 thousand emails in one day.” When you tried doing it, you can hardly find 10 emails in 1 hour.
Yes, most data entry jobs are really difficult.
  6. Payment Security – If you are very lucky, you will find clients who will pay you right away.  Some clients take a lifetime before they send you payment. Many do not pay at all. We hope that you do not encounter clients who will not pay.

Do not be fooled when you they say you can earn quick money doing data entry jobs.  If you want to stay at home to work for a long time, if you want to be successful in online freelancing, consider looking for other jobs.  Find or develop another skill in writing, bookkeeping, customer service, and online marketing.  If you are looking for an online job, then you must also be in Facebook. Try looking for Facebook management jobs instead.

Why You Should Not Apply To CAPTCHA Jobs

Hello Fellow Filipino Freelancers,

If you are a newbie at freelancing, and you are struggling to look for work, you might come across with job posts looking for people to do CAPTCHA. Have you ever wondered what CAPTCHA is? And why is my blog titled “Why You Should Not Apply To CAPTCHA Jobs”?

What is a CAPTCHA?

According to Wikipedia, “A CAPTCHA, or Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart, is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether or not the user is human.

When you log in to some sites, you will notice that you are required to enter the letters and numbers shown in a photo.  Sometimes, you are required to click images, as what the latest google CAPTCHA. Other CAPTCHA will ask you to solve simple math problems. There are different kinds of captcha. But the image below is the most common captcha.

captcha job captcha sample

CAPTCHA is a security added to websites so it is harder for hackers to get in to websites…. so you won't get hacked.

Why Are Some Companies Hiring People To Solve CAPTCHAs?

CAPTCHA prevents bots or automations to hack into websites. CAPTCHA verifies that you are not a bot and you are a human. Since no bots or any kind of software or program can be used to solve CAPTCHAs, a real person is needed to solve the CAPTCHA.

Now, why would companies need to solve CAPTCHAs? Since, companies can't use bots, softwares or programs, they hire people to do the bot's job.  A spamming company may employ you. A company that needs to create many emails may hire you (now why would a company need many emails — yes, probably for cheating, right?). Some companies want to open many accounts (in other words, hack into accounts) to spam, troll, sell fake followers or contest votes/likes, or ad-clicking spams. There are also a few companies that may be working on security systems that to improve CAPTCHA performance (this is legit then, but this kind of company is very few).

Why Shouldn’t You Apply To CAPTCHA Jobs?

So if you apply to CAPTCHA jobs, you may be used as a peripheral to a robot that is employed by either a spammer, a cheater, a hacker. By working CAPTCHA jobs, you may be working with the wrong people.

Other reasons why you shouldn't just settle with CAPTCHA jobs are:

  • It may seem very easy job. But where's the challenge in that?
  • Unbelievably very low rates. They pay like what? Less than a dollar for 1000 CAPTCHAs solved? It may take you 3 hours to solve that much CAPTCHA and you will get only a dollar or less for 3 hour work.
  • The chances of you not getting paid is very high. If they are cheating on other people, why wouldn't they cheat on you? CAPTCHA solving jobs are most likely cheating jobs, right? I'm not saying all CAPTCHA jobs are cheating jobs, but there is only a very small chance of legit CAPTCHA jobs with legit good intentions.
  • Other than your typing skills and identifying letters and number skills will improve immensely, no other skills will be improved.

If you are a newbie at working online and you want to be successful in online freelancing, head over to Nizza's Facebook Group. You will find loads of help from her and the members of the group.

There are so many legit jobs out there. You will soon find the best online job for you.

Project Masonry and Lightbox Without Using Plugin

I have a client who does not want to use any CMS.  Her website is pure html, php and css only. This was a challenge for me because I am very used to very-user-friendly CMS like WordPress and Squarespace. After weeks of lack of focus and confusion, I was managed to finish the task. Tadaaaa!!! Masonry gallery with lightbox.

Masonry and Lightbox Web Development Project

Here’s what I did/used:

For the masonry gallery, I found the codes by Desandro very useful.  You can find the codes here.

I only used the HTML and the CSS. I customized the CSS a bit. Added some classes and some custom stylings.  Of course, i did not forget to use -moz-column-count and -moz-column-gap. It was not in Desandro’s codes, but that CSS code will help make columns for the masonry.

I am not going to elaborate more on masonry. You can view the css of the page to see how I customized it.

For the lightbox, Lokesh Dhakar’s free lightbox codes helped a lot. I followed his very clear instructions to the dot. So easy. In just few minutes, I got lightbox on my client’s site.

You can visit my project at http://kensingtonflorals.com/ – Event Planning and Wedding Flowers Pages.  I’m going to convert this website soon to PHP to make way to manually making this website responsive. When I’m done with the responsive project, I’ll blog about it again.
